Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large loaf of crusty sourdough or French bread
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the bread loaf on a large piece of aluminum foil. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice the bread lengthwise and then crosswise in a grid pattern, spacing the cuts about 1 inch apart. Be careful to cut deep but do not cut all the way through the bottom crust.
  2. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Stir the mixture well to ensure the garlic and herbs are evenly distributed through the butter.
  3. Use a pastry brush or a small spoon to drizzle the garlic butter mixture into every crack and crevice of the bread. Make sure to get plenty of butter inside the cuts so the interior becomes soft and flavorful during baking.
  4. Gently pull the bread pieces apart and stuff the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese deep into the cracks. Sprinkle the grated parmesan over the top of the entire loaf for an extra salty, crispy finish.
  5. Wrap the entire loaf loosely in the aluminum foil. Place it on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, open the foil to expose the top of the bread and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
