Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or milk chocolate)
  • 1 package (10 ounces) large marshmallows, halved crosswise
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 box graham crackers, broken into squares for dipping
  • Optional: sliced strawberries or apple wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Oven and Skillet Preparation: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Take a 9-inch cast-iron skillet or a similarly sized oven-safe baking dish and coat the bottom and sides with a thin layer of unsalted butter. This helps prevent the chocolate from sticking and adds a rich flavor.
  2. Step 2: Adding the Chocolate Layer: Pour the chocolate chips into the bottom of the prepared skillet. Spread them out evenly so they form a consistent layer. Using high-quality chocolate chips will ensure a smooth, velvety melt that stays dippable for longer.
  3. Step 3: Top with Marshmallows: Arrange the marshmallow halves on top of the chocolate chips. Start from the outside and work your way toward the center. Place them cut-side down so they stay in place. Ensure they are packed tightly together so that they cover the chocolate completely.
  4. Step 4: Baking and Toasting: Place the skillet in the preheated oven. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes, or until the marshmallows are toasted and golden brown. Keep a close eye on them during the last few minutes, as they can go from golden to burnt very quickly.
  5. Step 5: Resting and Serving: Carefully remove the skillet from the oven using an oven mitt. Let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the chocolate to finish melting from the residual heat. Serve immediately while it is warm and gooey.
