Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease two 8-ounce ramekins or one small oven-safe baking dish with a little bit of butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar and half of the cinnamon. Divide the apple mixture evenly between the prepared ramekins, pressing them down slightly.
  3. In the same bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and the remaining cinnamon. Add the cold, cubed butter. Use your fingers or a fork to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the crumble topping generously over the apples in each ramekin. Place the ramekins on a small baking sheet to catch any drips. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple juices are bubbling around the edges.
  5. Remove the dishes from the oven and let them sit for about 5 to 10 minutes. This allows the juices to thicken slightly before you dig in.
