Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 prepared pound cake or angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 pounds fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, chilled

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries and blueberries thoroughly. Hull the strawberries and slice them into even pieces. Pat all the fruit dry with a paper towel to ensure no excess moisture thins out your cream layers.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until it is smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until completely combined and free of lumps.
  3. In a separate chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to over-whip, or it will turn into butter. You want a light, airy texture that holds its shape.
  4. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture using a spatula. Use a light hand to keep the mixture fluffy. This creates a rich, mousse-like filling that provides the “white” layers of your trifle.
  5. Place a single layer of cake cubes at the bottom of a large glass trifle bowl. Follow this with a layer of strawberries, then spread about one-third of the cream mixture over the berries, ensuring it reaches the edges of the glass.
  6. Add another layer of cake cubes, followed by a layer of blueberries. Spread another third of the cream mixture over the top. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients, finishing with a final layer of cream and a decorative arrangement of red and blue berries on top.
